FIELD OF THE INVENTION

[0001] This invention relates generally to drain plugs, and more particularly, to improved water dispersion devices and improved methods for cleaning sinks while accelerating water flow with the water dispersion devices thereof.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0002] Typically, a drain plug disperses water flowing from a water faucet located on an upper portion of a sink basin having a drain hole. A drain plug simply directs water flowing from the water faucet of the sink basin towards the drain hole with minimal splashing. A drain plug also may close the drain hole of the sink basin, so that water is retained in the sink basin and released from the sink basin as desired by a person using the sink. A drain plug typically has a convex shaped head portion to facilitate water flow into the drain hole of the sink basin. A portion of the drain plug typically comprises a washer located below the convex shaped head portion of the drain plug for coupling the drain plug to the drain hole. The washer seals the drain hole when the drain plug is pulled down onto a portion of the drain hole of the sink basin. At times, when a user of the water faucet opens the water faucet excessively, significant water wastage occurs with a lack of usage being made of the water that goes down the drain. There appear to be no improvements in drain plugs, which make better use of the water emanating from the faucet thereby leading to less water wastage.

[0003] For the foregoing reasons, an improvement in drain plugs is desirable.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0004] By changing the curvature of a portion of a surface of a cap of a drain plug from a substantially convex shape to a substantially concave shape, many benefits accrue. Some benefits include:

[0005] (1) providing a mechanism for keeping a sink basin cleaner, especially by washing away soap suds that would otherwise remain on the sink basin leading to scum,

[0006] (2) reducing bacterial growth,

[0007] (3) providing a mechanism for keeping a drain hole and drainpipe of the sink basin substantially clog free by causing accelerated aerating water flow down the drain hole and the drainpipe of the sink basin, and

[0008] (4) using water more efficiently, thereby decreasing water usage.

[0009] Accordingly, it is an object of this invention to provide an improved water dispersion device.

[0010] It is further an object of this invention to provide an improved water dispersion device having an end with a concave shaped inner surface adapted to provide accelerated water flow from a water faucet of a sink.

[0011] It is still a further object of this invention to provide an improved water dispersion device having an end with a concave shaped inner surface adapted to clean a sink basin and to keep a drain hole and a drain plug of the sink basin clean.

[0012] It is further an object of this invention to provide an improved water dispersion device having an end with a concave shaped inner surface and an opposite end adapted to couple to a portion of surface of a drain plug.

[0013] It is still a further object of this invention to provide methods for cleaning a sink basin, a drain hole and a drainpipe with an improved water dispersion device having an end with a concave shaped inner surface.

[0014] It is yet a further object of this invention to provide methods for reducing water usage with an improved water dispersion device having an end with a concave shaped inner surface.

Preferred Embodiments of the Invention

[0015] In accordance with an embodiment of this invention, a water dispersion device is disclosed. The device comprises, in combination at least one member having an end and an opposite end. An inner surface of a portion of the end has a substantially concave shape. The end disperses a stream of water when the stream of water is directed onto the substantially concave shaped inner surface. The opposite end includes an inner surface having a substantially concave shape. The opposite end is adapted to couple to a portion of a surface of a cap located at an end of a drain plug. The substantially concave shaped inner surface of the end redirects the stream of water uniformly to an inner surface of the sink basin thereby cleaning a portion of the inner surface of said sink.

[0016] In accordance with another embodiment of this invention, another water dispersion device is disclosed. The water dispersion device comprises, in combination a first member and a second member. An inner surface of a portion of an end of the first member has a substantially concave shape, the end of the first member dispersing a stream of water uniformly when the stream of water is directed onto the substantially concave shaped inner surface. A portion of an opposite end of the first member has an opening. A portion of an end of the second member has a protrusion, the protrusion adapted to couple to the opening of the opposite end of the first member. An inner surface of a portion of an opposite end of the second member has a substantially concave shape. The opposite end of the second member is adapted to couple to a portion of a surface of a cap located at an end of a drain plug.

[0017] In accordance with another embodiment of this invention, a water dispersion drain device of a sink basin having a drain hole is disclosed. The device comprises, in combination an elongated member and a head member. An inner surface of a portion of an end of the head member has a substantially concave shape and an outer surface of a portion of an opposite end of the head member is coupled to an end of the elongated member. The head member disperses a stream of water uniformly when the stream of water is directed at the substantially concave shaped inner surface of the portion of the head member. A portion of an opposite end of the elongated member has at least one opening. The at least one opening is adapted to couple to an actuator for selectively moving the water dispersion drain device to open and close the drain hole of the sink basin when a portion of the outer surface of the portion of the opposite end of the head member contacts a portion of the drain hole of the sink basin.

[0018] In accordance with another embodiment of this invention, a method for cleaning both a sink basin and a drainpipe of the sink basin having a drain hole is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of providing a water dispersion device having a first member and a second member. An inner surface of a portion of an end of the first member has a substantially concave shape, the end of the first member dispersing a stream of water uniformly when the stream of water is directed onto the substantially concave shaped inner surface of the portion of the end of the first member. A portion of an opposite end of the first member has an opening. A portion of an end of the second member has a protrusion, the protrusion of the second member being adapted to couple to the opening of the portion of the opposite end of the first member, an inner surface of a portion of an opposite end of the second member having a substantially concave shape. The method further comprises the steps of coupling the opening of the opposite end of the first member to the protrusion of the end of the second member, and coupling the substantially concave shaped inner surface of the portion of the opposite end of the second member to a portion of a surface of a cap of a drain plug of a sink basin. The method further comprises the steps of directing a stream of water flowing from a faucet of the sink basin onto the concave shaped inner surface of the portion of the end of the first member; aerating and uniformly dispersing the stream of water to clean an inner surface of the sink basin; accelerating flow of the stream of water into the drain hole of the sink basin, thereby cleaning the drainpipe of the sink basin; and decreasing overall water usage by efficiently cleaning the inner surface of the sink basin and the drainpipe of the sink basin.

[0019] The foregoing and other objects, features, and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the following, more detailed description of the preferred embodiments of the invention, as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
