Brief Patent Description - Full Patent Description - Patent Application Claims BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION [0001] 1. Field of the Invention [0002] The present invention relates to apparatus for supporting athletic exercise equipment or other heavy items. More particularly, the present invention relates to apparatus for supporting a plurality of spaced heavy boxing bags or water bags. [0003] 2. Description of the Related Art [0004] The use of various types of stands for suspending heavy boxing bags for training by a boxer is known. These stands are typically limited to supporting a single boxing bag from a single cantilevered beam. Such designs are inherently subject to bending and failure during extended use. The unbalanced design also requires a large base support. It would be desirable to provide a robust stand capable of suspending a plurality of heavy boxing bags for use by training boxers. It would also be desirable to provide a balanced support stand requiring a minimum of base support. [0005] None of the above-discussed support stands, taken either singly or in combination, is seen to describe the instant invention as claimed. Thus, a multiple heavy bag stand solving the aforementioned problems is desired. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION [0006] The multiple heavy bag stand of the present invention is useful for the spaced suspension of heavy boxing bags for use in training boxers. The stand has a centrally disposed, vertically extending stanchion of steel pipe upon which is removably attached a horizontally extending support rack. The rack is constructed of steel tubing of square cross section and forms a polygonal perimeter having a support for an individual bag at each corner of the polygon. Radial supports extend outward from a centrally located vertical support attached at the upper end of the vertical stanchion, the radial supports supporting the polygonal perimeter. A pair of upper horizontal and upper angled lower radial supports is spaced along and extends from the centrally located vertical support to join at each individual bag support. The design is robust to carry the weight of the heavy bags. Boxing bags may be of the same size or of varying sizes as desired. The inventive stand may also be used as a support for a plurality of water bags for a military installation. Support racks having three, four, five, six, eight, of other desired number of bag attachment stations are provided and may be easily replaced or substituted by removing one size from the stanchion and attaching another in its place. [0007] These and other features of the present invention will become readily apparent upon further review of the following specification and drawings. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS [0008] FIG. 1 is an environmental, perspective view of a multiple heavy bag stand according to the present invention. [0009] FIG. 2 is a plan view of the bag stand of FIG. 1. [0010] FIG. 3 is a side elevation view of the bag stand of FIG. 1. [0011] FIG. 4 is an enlarged scale detail view taken from the lower right corner of FIG. 2. [0012] FIG. 5 is an elevational detail view of the structure as seen in FIG. 4. [0013] FIG. 6 is a plan view similar to FIG. 2 of a bag stand having a square rack with four bag positions. [0014] FIG. 7 is a plan view similar to FIG. 2 of a bag stand having a pentagonal rack with five bag positions. [0015] FIG. 8 is a plan view similar to FIG. 2 of a bag stand having an octagonal rack with eight bag positions. [0016] Similar reference characters denote corresponding features consistently throughout the attached drawings. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS [0017] The present invention is a stand for heavy bags such as punching bags or water bags. [0018] Referring to the Figures, bag stand system 10 includes a vertically disposed, elongated stanchion 12 having a lower stanchion mounting flange 14 for anchoring to a floor and an upper mounting flange 16 at corresponding lower and upper ends of elongate body 18. Preferably, stanchion elongate body 18 is cylindrical in form having a round lower flange having securing bolts 26 set in concrete or otherwise attached to the floor. Stanchion 12 supports a bag support frame 20 having a vertically disposed inner elongate body 22. Elongate body 22 preferably is cylindrical in form having an attachment flange 24 at its lower end having bolt receiving bores 25 and being of the same size and bore configuration of stanchion upper mounting flange 16 for attachment therebetween by securing bolts 26 and nuts (not shown). Stanchion 12 and elongate body 22 forms a central post having an upper portion for mounting the bag support frame 20 when connected. Bag support frame 20 is polygonal in shape having a bag support at each corner. [0019] Referring to FIGS. 1-5, there is shown an embodiment of the invention having a triangular bag support frame 20 centrally mounted on stanchion 12 and having support corners for three heavy punching and kicking bags B. Bag support frame 20 of this embodiment has railed perimeter member 28 having bag support brackets 30 at each of the three corners thereof and three perimeter rails 32 of equal length forming the generally triangular perimeter 32. Perimeter rails 32 are preferably tubular in configuration having a square cross section and having upper walls 34, inner and outer sidewalls 36 and lower walls 38. The bag support brackets 30 are preferably tubular in configuration having a square cross section of the same dimensions as perimeter rails 32. [0020] Bag support brackets 30 have upper walls 40, inner and outer sidewalls 42, and lower walls 44 and each upper wall 40 and lower wall has aligned bag support receiving bores 48 for insertion of a bag support such as the threaded shank of a bag support hook 50 secured by hook nuts 52. Bag B as shown is suspended from support chains attached to the hook portion of hook 50. Upper radial perimeter support members 60 extend laterally between inner frame support body 22 and each bag support bracket 30, respectively, each radial perimeter support member having an inner end portion 62 attached to the inner frame support body 22 and an outer end portion 64 attached at the inner sidewall 42 of bag support bracket 30 as by welding.
