1. A method for identifying substances with antiapoptotic activity, comprising i) culturing cells which express both CD47 and the integrin .alpha..sub.v.beta..sub.3, ii) causing the cells to produce an apoptosis-inducing substance, and/or adding a substance which simultaneously binds CD47 and .alpha..sub.v.beta..sub.3 by culturing under static or turbulent flow conditions, thereby inducing apoptosis, iii) adding a test substance, and iv) determining a change in apoptosis rate by determining the portion of cells with apoptotic nuclei, wherein a decrease in apoptotic rate in step iv) is indicative of the test substance having antiapoptotic activity.
