1. A lever-type connector, comprising: a first housing (10; 110) connectable with a second housing (50; 150), a lever (30; 130) displaceably assembled with the first housing (10; 110) and formed with at least one cam (33; 138) configured to display a cam action in cooperation with a mating cam (52; 151), the lever being displaceable from a standby position (SP) to a connection position (CP) to assist connection of the first housing (10; 110) with the second housing (50; 150) by the cam action caused by engagement of the cam (33; 138) and the mating cam (52; 151), holding means (21L, 21R; 22; 34; 36) on at least one of the first housing (10; 110) and the lever (30; 130) for holding the lever (30; 130) at the standby position (SP), and locking means (21L, 21R; 23L, 23R; 39; 41) on at least one of the first housing (10; 110) and the lever (30;130) for locking the lever (30; 130) at the connection position (CP), wherein: the lever (30; 130) is a plate that can assembled with the first housing (10; 110) in two postures substantially symmetrical to an axis of symmetry (19; 101) substantially parallel with a connecting direction (CD) of the first housing (10; 110) with the second housing (50; 150), the holding means (21L, 21R; 22; 34; 36) of the first housing (10; 110) is substantially on the axis of symmetry (19; 101) or at two positions substantially symmetrical to the axis of symmetry (19; 101), and the locking means (21L, 21R; 23L, 23R; 39; 41) of the first housing (10; 110) is substantially on the axis of symmetry (19;101) or at two positions substantially symmetrical to the axis of symmetry (19; 101).
2. The lever-type connector of claim 1, wherein the cam means (33; 138) comprises a cam groove (33; 138) and wherein the entrance (140) of the cam groove (33; 138) is on the axis of symmetry (19; 101) when the lever (30; 130) is at the standby position (SP).
3. The lever-type connector of claim 1, wherein the lever (30; 130) is displaced by rotation around an axis through which the axis of symmetry (19; 101) passes.
4. The lever-type connector of claim 1, wherein the lever (30; 130) has an operable portion (40) for displacing the lever (30; 130), the operable portion (40) including a resilient lock (41) displaceable between a locking position where the resilient lock (41) engages the locking means (21L, 21R; 23L, 23R) of the first housing (10) and an unlocking position where the resilient lock (41) disengages the locking means (21L, 21R; 23L, 23R).
5. The lever-type connector of claim 4, where resilient displacing directions of the resilient lock (41) are substantially the same as a thickness direction of the plate-shaped lever (30).
6. The lever-type connector of claim 1, wherein the first housing (10) includes an accommodation space (14) for accommodating the lever (30).
7. The lever-type connector of claim 6, wherein the lever (30) has an operable portion (40) for displacing the lever (30), the operable portion (40) including a resilient lock (41) displaceable between a locking position where the resilient lock (41) engages the locking means (21L, 21R; 23L, 23R) of the first housing (30) and an unlocking position where the resilient lock (41) disengages from the locking means (21L, 21R; 23L, 23R), and a protecting portion (43) at least partly surrounding the resilient lock (41).
8. The lever-type connector of claim 7, wherein an area of the operable portion (40) including the protecting portion (43) is displaced outside the accommodation space (14) in the process of displacing the lever (30).
9. The lever-type connector of claim 1, wherein the lever (30; 130) is supported detachably on the first housing (10; 110) in two postures substantially symmetrical with respect to the axis of symmetry (19; 101), and the cam groove (33; 138) has an entrance substantially on the axis of symmetry (19; 101) when the lever (30; 130) is at the initial position (SP).
10. The lever-type connector of claim 9, wherein the lever (30; 130) is displaced between the initial position (SP) and the connecting position (CP) by rotating the lever (30; 130) around an axis through which the axis of symmetry (19; 101) passes.
11. The lever-type connector of claim 9, wherein the lever (130) is displaceable to a detachment position (DP) beyond the connection position (CP).
12. The lever-type connector of claim 11, wherein detaching means (122; 139) are provided between the first housing (110) and the lever (130) for displacing the lever (130) in a direction away from the first housing (110) to disengage a supported portion when the lever (130) substantially reaches the detachment position (DP).
13. The lever-type connector assembly comprising the lever-type connector of claim 1 and a mating connector comprising the second housing (50; 150).
