After I had my twins Judah and Jacob in Jul. 2004, it was brought to my attention that bibs were functional, but not stylish. We were on our way to church and naturally they spit up before we got out the door. I asked my son to go get me a bib to match the outfit they had on and he said, "I can't find one." The only one he could find was a lime green color of some sort. Then I proposed the question to him, they need bibs to match their outfits and if they throw up on it I can change it quickly and put on another of the same style and material, hence Judah & Jacob Bibmates. BREIF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION [0005] My invention takes a regular baby bibs to a new level. I have separated the vinyl backing from the cloth front, so moms around the world can quickly remove the top part of the dirty bib and reattach it with a clean one, but still keep their child's outfit looking stylish. The cloth part of the bib has Velcro on the back and the vinyl part of the bib has the other part of the Velcro and the string to tie the bib for easy removal or attachment. BREIF DESCRIPTION OF THE SEVERAL VIEWS OF THE DRAWING [0006] "Not Applicable" DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION [0007] The first step in my inventing the Judah & Jacob Bib mates was to come up with a way to achieve the stylish yet functional baby bib. I looked at several fabrics in a variety of colors, finally choosing a blue/black plaid and a blue jean material. Then I picked out two different types of adhesives, which were sewing glue, Velcro, snaps, and thread. Then I had to decide on how big I wanted the bib to be. The bib had to be big enough for newborns, infants, and toddlers. I also needed to find material that would not allow spills to penetrate the bib, so I found some vinyl backing at the Wal-Mart store along with material for trimmming fabric edges. After gathering all my materials I sat down at the kitchen table and began to make up some samples. I took a small to medium sized bib and traced it on the vinyl backing (I did this twice). Next I cut out one of the shapes and applied sewing glue to the edges, then I took my white trim material and applied it to the edge of the vinyl backing, leaving enough trim so the bib could be tied around a baby's neck. Soon after I took the small to medium bib and traced it twice on the blue jean material. I cut the pattern out and applied sewing glue to its edges, and then I applied the white trim material to the edge of the blue jean material, this time I did not leave any extra material. I then turned the cloth part of the bib over and applied four Velcro circles evenly around the back of the cloth bib. I did not pull off the paper until all four circles of Velcro were in the spot that I desired. After pulling off the paper I took the cloth bib and placed it on top of the vinyl backing and held it in place until the Velcro was secure. I repeated this step with the other two cut outs, this time using a sewing machine. In my trails and errors of creating Judah & Jacob Bibmates I found that sewing with the sewing machine was better than using sewing glue, because the material would not bunch up at the bottom. I additionally discovered that the Velcro worked better than the snaps in keeping with the color theme, but the Velcro would have to be sown down to keep it from falling off after several washes. It was brought to my attention as well, that very light weight material caused problems, but in the end could be done; so I focused my invention on medium to heavy material. My overall goal that I achieved is that the bibs are detachable from the backing. Continue reading about Judah & jacob bibmates...
