BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0001] 1. Field of the Invention

[0002] The present invention relates to a golf club head and more particularly, to such a golf club head, which has an attachment bonded to the inside wall of the front casing thereof to reinforce the structural strength of the front face panel.

[0003] 2. Description of the Related Art

[0004] Various golf club heads have been disclosed. FIG. 1 shows one prior art design of golf club head. According to this design, the golf club head A comprises a body 300, which a flat recess 301 at the front side, and a face panel 400 welded to the flat recess 301 of the body 300. This design of golf club head is not durable in use. After a long use, the connection portion between the face panel 400 and the body 300 may break.

[0005] FIG. 2 shows another prior design of golf club head. According to this design, the golf club head A comprises a front casing 100 and a rear casing 200 welded together. The front casing 100 has a front face panel 101 for striking the ball. The front face panel 101 of the front casing 100 must have a certain wall thickness to provide sufficient strength for striking the ball. However, because the front face panel 101 has a thick wall, the center of gravity of the golf club head A is relatively biased toward the front side, thereby affecting ball-driving stability and distance control. Further, this design does not allow the manufacturer to change the position of the center of gravity of the golf club head to fit different ball striking requirements.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0006] The present invention has been accomplished under the circumstances in view.

[0007] According to one aspect of the present invention, the golf club head is comprised of a front casing, which has a front face panel for striking the ball, a rear casing connected to the rear side of the front casing, and an attachment bonded to the inside wall of the front casing to shift the center of gravity of the golf club head backward. By means of changing the bonding position of the attachment in the inside wall of the front casing or changing the design of the attachment, the center of gravity of the golf club head is relatively adjusted as desired so that the golf club head can hit the ball steadily and accurately.

[0008] According to another aspect of the present invention, the attachment is made of light, high strength and resilient or elastic material, and bonded to the inside wall of the front casing to reinforce the structural strength and resilience of the face panel of the front casing, thereby prolonging the life of the golf club head.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0009] FIG. 1 is an exploded view of a golf club head according to the prior art.

[0010] FIG. 2 is a sectional view of another design of golf club head according to the prior art.

[0011] FIG. 3 is a sectional view of a golf club head according to the present invention.

[0012] FIG. 4 is an exploded view of the golf club head according to the present invention.

[0013] FIG. 5 is an exploded view of the front casing and the attachment for the golf club head according to the present invention.

[0014] FIG. 6 is a sectional assembly view of the front casing and the attachment according to the present invention.

[0015] FIG. 7 is similar to FIG. 6 but showing an alternate form of the attachment.

[0016] FIG. 8 is similar to FIG. 6 but showing another alternate form of the attachment.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

[0017] Referring to FIGS. 3 and 4, a golf club head B in accordance with the present invention is shown comprising a front casing 10 and a rear casing 20. The front casing 10 and the rear casing 20 are made of metal, and fastened together to form the body of the golf club head B. The front casing 10 has a face panel 11 of thin wall thickness at the front side (see FIG. 5) for striking the ball. An attachment 30 is bonded to the inside wall of the front casing 10 (see FIG. 6). The attachment 30 is a hollow shell made of light metal (for example, aluminum or magnesium), nylon, carbon fiber, or high strength plastics. The attachment 30 can be made having a relatively thinner center part and relatively thicker border area (see FIG. 7). Alternatively, the attachment 30 can be made having a relatively thicker center area and relatively thinner border area (see FIG. 8).

[0018] Because the attachment 30 is bonded to the inside wall of the front casing 10, it forms an inner layer of the front casing 10 to reinforce the structural strength and resilience of the face panel 11, enabling the face panel 11 to strike the ball positively.

[0019] As indicated above, the golf club head of the present invention achieves the following advantages:

[0020] 1. The attachment 30 is bonded to the inside wall of the front casing 10 to shift the center of gravity of the golf club head backward. By means of changing the bonding position of the attachment 30 in the inside wall of the front casing 10 or changing the design of the attachment 30, the center of gravity of the golf club head is relatively adjusted as desired so that the golf club head can hit the ball steadily and accurately.
