Drink holder receptacle

USPTO Application #: 20060231698
Title: Drink holder receptacle
Abstract: The device will hold a wide variety of cans, cups, bottles, jars, soft drink cups, coffee cups, and other similar containers and small items. The device will keep these normally top heavy items steady and stable in a variety of settings where, without assistance from the device, the containers would be more likely to spill their contents. The device is constructed of a flexible material containing weighted filler that is heavier than air, designed to provide stability without rigidity. The bottom of the device is flexible enough to conform to variations in surfaces. The filler material surrounds a cavity designed to hold a secondary container. The device is designed in such a way as to conform to the surface on which it is placed. The device will hold a container upright when the device itself is placed on an uneven, unstable, soft, broken or slanted surface. The device will conform even to surfaces that are significantly uneven such as but not limited to car parking brake handles, car gearshift area, car seats, and car floor. (end of abstract)

BACKGROUND

[0001] The device is a receptacle intended to hold a secondary beverage container.

SUMMARY

[0002] The device will hold a wide variety of cans, cups, bottles, jars, soft drink cups, coffee cups, and other similar containers and small items. The device will keep these normally top heavy items steady and stable in a variety of settings where, without assistance from the device, the containers would be likely to spill their contents. The drink holder is designed to rest stable on many varied irregular, uneven or broken surfaces, including but not limited to car seats, car parking brake handles, and car floor. The receptacle is unique from other beverage container receptacles in that it will allow the secondary beverage container to remain on a perpendicular or near perpendicular plain when the receptacle is resting on an uneven, slanted, or irregular surface. The aperture of the receptacle is designed to accommodate a large variety of sizes, shapes and types of beverage containers. The depth of the receptacle is designed to lend greater lateral stability for large beverage containers. The device is completely portable and is designed with a fluidly flexible base and outer rim that can be positioned in irregular spaces.

DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS

[0003] View A: Plan View, shows the receptacle cavity where the drink container is placed, surrounded by the bag-like support portion. The weighted filler is contained within the support structure.

[0004] View B: Elevation shows the surface area of the support portion. The bag-like support structure holds a sufficient amount of the weighted filler around the receptacle cavity. View B shows the fill line for the weighted filler. The bag-like support structure holds the filler in the correct proportions for lateral support of the secondary container and flexibility of the base of the device.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0005] The device has three main parts, the receptacle, the weighted filler and the support structure. The receptacle portion forms a cavity that is surrounded by the weighted filler. The support portion of the device holds the filler around the receptacle. The support portion's bag-like construction holds the weighted filler in the correct proportions for lateral support of the secondary container in the receptacle and flexibility of the base of the device. The support portion of the device is constructed of any flexible material that allows fluid movement. The support structure consists of a baglike portion constructed to contain sufficient amount of the weighted filler to keep the internal receptacle portion of the device adjustable to the upright position. The base of the baglike portion of the device is what allows the device to rest on so many varied surfaces.

[0006] The base will conform to the irregular surface while the weighted filler will maintain the upright position of the receptacle aperture. The perimeter of the device is also fluidly flexible allowing the sides of the device to conform to areas that are smaller than the actual size of the base. The design will allow itself to be squeezed through a small space, such as between two car seats, and then rest on whatever surface is there.
