BACKGROUND

[0001] One of the most difficult tasks of any software company is understanding how customers are using the existing version of the software so that improvements can be made in building the next version. Many companies choose to survey the customer explicitly. But surveys are laborious to design and administer and require significant effort on the part of the customer to fill out.

SUMMARY

[0002] Collecting and analyzing usage data from a CRM database provides useful insights into improving future versions of CRM software. Options for the type of data to be collected may be presented and several opportunities may be available to tailor the data to be communicated to the CRM provider. The data may be serialized into XML, encrypted, compressed and sent using a secure socket layer to provide security and lower bandwidth usage.
