Chest expander handle

USPTO Application #: 20060105893
Title: Chest expander handle
Abstract: A chest expander handle includes a gripping portion with a rubber pad mounted around the gripping portion and a connecting portion having two arms integrally connected to opposed ends of the gripping portion, a through hole centrally defined through the connecting portion, a first side hole defined in the connecting portion, a first cutout defined in an outer periphery of the connecting portion to communicate with the first side hole and a second side hole defined in the connecting portion. Therefore, a first elastic rope is able to extend into the through hole to be secured to the connecting portion, and a second elastic rope is able to be securely received in the first side hole via the first cutout. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0001] 1. Field of the Invention

[0002] The present invention relates to a chest expander handle, and more particularly to the handle enabling the user to easily and quickly adjust the tension of the chest expander.

[0003] 2. Description of Related Art

[0004] With reference to FIG. 8, a conventional chest expander handle (50) has a flat portion (51) for gripping by the user and a connector (52) defining therethrough a central hole (521). When the handle (50) is provided for use with the chest expander (not shown), a free end of the elastic rope (60) is extended into the central hole (521). After the extension of the central hole (521), the user ties a knot A to the free end of the elastic rope (60) such that the elastic rope (60) is fixed to the chest expander handle (50). Due to various strengths of individuals, when the tension of the elastic rope is to be changed, the user will have to untie the knot for replacement of a different elastic rope of a different dimension. Thus tying and untying a knot to the free end of the elastic rope are too troublesome for the user, especially when exercisers are particularly intensively busy people. In order to overcome the shortcoming of the conventional chest expander handle, a new chest expander handle is shown in FIG. 9. The body of the chest expander handle (80) has a centrally defined space (82) in communication with an opening (81) defined through a side face of the body, and a cylinder (70) is rotatably received in the opening (81) of the body of the chest expander handle (80). An elastic rope (60) is mounted around the outer periphery of the cylinder (70) and extended out from the body of the chest expander handle (80). Because when the chest expander handle (80) is used, the cylinder (70) is driven by the elastic rope (60) to move deeper into the space (82), the elastic rope (60) is secured in the chest expander handle (80). Although this kind of chest expander handle (80) allows the user to quickly adjust it for different elastic ropes, the structure of the chest expander handle (80) is too complex and thus the manufacture cost is high.

[0005] To overcome the shortcomings, the present invention tends to provide an improved chest expander handle to mitigate the aforementioned problems.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0006] The primary objective of the present invention is to provide an improved chest expander handle enabling the user to quickly replace the elastic rope, whereby the expander is suitable for different users.

[0007] In order to accomplish the aforementioned objective, the chest expander handle of the present invention includes a grip portion and a connecting portion integrally formed with the grip portion and having a central hole defined in a body of the connecting portion and two side holes defined close to the central hole. The body of the connecting portion is further provided with a first cutout and a second cutout defined in an outer periphery of the body of the connecting portion to respectively communicate with the two side holes. Therefore, an elastic rope is easily attached/detached to the chest expander handle of the present invention.

[0008] Other objects, advantages and novel features of the invention will become more apparent from the following detailed description when taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0009] FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the chest expander handle of the present invention;

[0010] FIG. 2 is an exploded perspective view showing how the chest expander handle and an elastic rope are combined;

[0011] FIG. 3 is a perspective view showing the assembled chest expander handle and the elastic rope;

[0012] FIG. 4 is a perspective view showing that two elastic ropes are connected to the chest expander handle of the present invention;

[0013] FIG. 5 is a perspective view showing that three elastic ropes are connected to the chest expander handle of the present invention;

[0014] FIG. 6 is a perspective view showing that the elastic rope is connected to the chest expander handle in a different manner;

[0015] FIG. 7 is a perspective view showing a different embodiment of the chest expander handle of the present invention;

[0016] FIG. 8 is a schematic cross sectional view showing a conventional chest expander handle; and

[0017] FIG. 9 is a schematic side plan view showing a different conventional chest expander handle.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

[0018] With reference to FIG. 1, the chest expander handle in accordance with the present invention includes a grip portion (10) and a connecting portion (20).

[0019] The grip portion (10) is a flat portion with a rubber pad (not numbered) mounted thereon. The connecting portion (20) has two arms (11) integrally connected to opposed ends of the grip portion (10). The connecting portion (20) further has a centrally defined through hole (21), a first side hole (22) and a second side hole (22') defined close to the through hole (21). Further, a first cutout (23) is defined in an outer periphery of the connecting portion (20) to communicate with the first side hole (22) and a second cutout (23') is also defined in the outer periphery of the connecting portion (20) to communicate with the second side hole (22').

[0020] With reference to FIGS. 2 and 3, when the chest expander handle of the present invention is assembled with an elastic rope (40), a free end of the elastic rope (40) is extended through the through hole (21) and then a ball (41) having a dimension larger than a diameter of the through hole (21) is inserted into the free end of the elastic rope (40). Finally a hollow plug (42) having a dimension smaller than that of the ball (41) is securely mounted on the free end of the elastic rope (40) to secure the ball (41) inside the elastic rope (40). Thus the elastic rope (40) is securely connected to the chest expander handle of the present invention.
