Carpet/rug sleeve protectorRelated Patent Categories: Special Receptacle Or Package, For Roll Or ReelCarpet/rug sleeve protector description/claimsThe Patent Description & Claims data below is from USPTO Patent Application 20070080082, Carpet/rug sleeve protector. Brief Patent Description - Full Patent Description - Patent Application Claims PURPOSE AND FUNCTIONALITY [0001] The purpose of the Carpet/Rug Sleeve Protector is to protect the carpet or rug from the environment and also to protect the carpet or rug when it is in storage and when it is being transported from the warehouse to the place of installation. The sleeve is made of a 1.5 mil poly vinyl material that is sealed at one end and open at the other. The end opposite the open end is sealed by using an acetone sealer, which melts the joint together creating a closed end on the sleeve. The carpet or rug is then inserted into the poly vinyl sleeve through the open end. After the carpet or rug has been inserted into the sleeve, the end that is open and shows the carpet or rug material is tucked in, so that when the excess material on the end of the sleeve is tucked into the rug the sleeve excess is protecting the end of the carpet or rug. This sleeve, totally encompassing the carpet or rug, will help to maintain the freshness of the carpet or rug, but also help to protect the color from the sunlight or any lighting that could damage the carpet or rug. [0002] The sleeve will also be used as an advertising media because on the side of the sleeve a logo or advertising can be silk screened or printed on by some other means. The intention of using the sleeve as an advertising media is to make use of the space on the sleeve to promote the product or company. As the carpet or rug is being transported from one location to another the advertising will be in full view of the public. Upon reaching the destination for installation, the carpet or rug is pulled from the sleeve or in some cases the sleeve can be rolled back from the carpet or rug. The sleeve is then discarded. Operating the Carpet/Rug Sleeve Protector [0003] The Carpet/Rug Sleeve Protector (FIG. 1, Item 1) will be in a roll, with one end already sealed as shown in (FIG. 1, Item 2). This end has been sealed by using an acetone adhesive and applying it to the rim of the Carpet/Rug Sleeve Protector and pressing the rim together as shown in (FIG. 1, Item 3) (FIG. 2, Item 4) shows the sleeve protector with the open end ready to have the carpet or the rug inserted. (FIG. 4, Item 5) shows the position of the carpet or rug before being inserted into the sleeve. After the carpet or rug has been inserted as shown in (FIG. 3, Item 6) it is important that the excess material of the Carpet/Rug sleeve Protector is left protruding from the end of the carpet to the edge of the sleeve protector (FIG. 3, Item 7). After the carpet or rug has been inserted into the sleeve, the open end of the sleeve is then tucked in as shown in (FIG. 4, Item 8). The reason the end is tucked in is to protect the rug in transportation and to further protect the carpet or rug from the environment. [0004] As shown in (FIG. 4, Item 9) this area is used for advertising. What this does is make available to the manufacturer, or dealer, a place where they can advertise their business or put a logo on the sleeve. This also makes the sleeve a more valuable commodity for the manufacturer or dealer when they want to ship their carpet or rug. The advertising can also be placed repetitively every 24 to 36 inches so the advertising repeats itself. DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS [0005] 1. FIG. 1 illustrates the Carpet/Rug Sleeve Protector in its open stage with the sealed end. This figure illustrates also what the end looks like after it is sealed with the acetone epoxy. [0006] 2. FIG. 2 illustrates the open end of the Carpet/Rug Sleeve Protector as it is in position to receive the carpet or rug through its open end. The figure also shows that the carpet or rug has to be in alignment to the sleeve to be received by the sleeve. [0007] 3. FIG. 3 indicates the position the carpet or rug is in after it has been inserted into the sleeve. The figure also shows the extra space required inside the sleeve after it carpet or rug has been inserted. This extra space is shown because it is what is needed to tuck the sleeve inside of the carpet or rug. [0008] 4. FIG. 4 illustrates what the sleeve looks like after the end has been tucked into the carpet or rug to protect the end of the carpet or rug. The figure also illustrates the position that the logo or advertising is placed on the sleeve. Continue reading about Carpet/rug sleeve protector...
