Card connectorRelated Patent Categories: Electrical Connectors, With Insulation Other Than Conductor Sheath, Plural-contact Coupling Part, For Coupling To Edge Of Printed Circuit Board Or To Coupling Part Secured To Such Edge, Having Elongated Slot For Receiving Edge Of Printed Circuit BoardThe Patent Description & Claims data below is from USPTO Patent Application 20060172604. Brief Patent Description - Full Patent Description - Patent Application Claims BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION [0001] 1. Field of the Invention [0002] The present invention relates to a card connector, more particularly to an improved card connector for connecting two different electrical cards to a printed circuit board (PCB). [0003] 2. Description of Related Art [0004] With the tendency of reducing the size of a computer device, demand has arisen for increasing its data storage capacity at low cost. Generally, electrical cards, such as express cards or smart cards, are data storage devices which are electrically connected to the computer device. The electrical cards are portable instruments that are easily inserted into and extracted from card connectors of the computer device. [0005] Due to the ever-increasing demand in today's Notebook Personal Computer (Notebook-PC) for high-capacity signal transmission, more card connectors are arranged in "dual port" or stacked configurations. Example of this card connector is disclosed in U.S. Pat. No. 6,551,132. Such card connector commonly includes an upper connector and a lower connector stacked together for receiving individual electrical cards therein and respectively electrically connecting the electrical cards to a PCB. This card connector meets the requirement of high-capacity data transmission since it can simultaneously receive two different types of electrical cards therein. However, the overall size of the card connector is not reduced at all since the card connector simply stacks the upper connector and the lower connector together. It is not suitable to install such card connector in the Notebook-PC for it occupies too much space. Thus a card connector is required which defines a card receiving space for receiving two different cards and can prevent misinsertion of cards at the same time. [0006] Therefore, the present invention is directed to solving the above problems by providing an improved card connector. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION [0007] An object of the present invention is to provide a card connector which defines a card receiving space for receiving two different cards and can prevent misinsertion of cards. [0008] Accordingly, to achieve above-mentioned object, a card connector comprises a header comprising an insulating main body; a shield member coupled on the header to define a card receiving space; a plurality of first contacts and second contacts disposed in the insulating main body and exposed in the card receiving space along a vertical direction to electrically connect with a first card and a second card respectively, the first card may approximately occupy the card receiving space fully; and a stopper approximately arranged in a row with the first contacts along a transverse direction and protruding into the card receiving space approximately from a corner of the main body, and spaced with the shield coupled on an upper face of the main body to define a daughter space therebetween with the second contacts exposed in to receive the second card. [0009] The detailed features of the present invention will be apparent in the detailed description with appropriate reference to the accompanying drawings. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS [0010] FIG. 1 is an assembled perspective view of the card connector in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention; [0011] FIG. 2 is a partly assemble perspective view of the card connector shown in FIG. 1 with a shield and an ejector not assembled; [0012] FIG. 3 is a same perspective view of the card connector shown in FIG. 2, but from another aspect; [0013] FIG. 4 is a partly assembled perspective view of the card connector shown in FIG. 1, showing original status of insertion of an express card 7; [0014] FIG. 5 is a partly assembled perspective view of the card connector shown in FIG. 1, showing final status of insertion of the express card 7; [0015] FIG. 6 is a partly assembled perspective view of the card connector shown in FIG. 1, showing final status of insertion of a express card 8; [0016] FIG. 7 is a partly assembled perspective view of the card connector shown in FIG. 1, showing original status of insertion of a smart card; [0017] FIG. 8 is a partly assembled perspective view of the card connector shown in FIG. 1, showing status after the smart card collides with a guiding face of the card connector; and [0018] FIG. 9 is a partly assembled perspective view of the card connector shown in FIG. 1, showing final status of insertion of the smart card. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION [0019] As shown in FIGS. 1 to 9, the card connector in an embodiment of the present invention can be used commonly for a thin, wide card such as a smart card 9 and a thick, narrow card such as a rectangular express card 7 or a L-shaped express card 8. The present invention, however, is not limited to the use of these cards but also be applied satisfactorily to other cards. [0020] Referring to FIGS. 1 and 3, the card connector of a preferred embodiment of the present invention comprises a header 1, a plurality of first electrical contacts 2 disposed in the header 1 for electrically connecting with the express card 7 or 8, a plurality of second electrical contacts 3 disposed in a contact module 4 which is assembled to the header 1 over the first contacts 2 for electrically connecting with the smart card 9, a shield member 5 and an ejector 6.
