CROSS REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION

[0001] The present application claims priority and the benefit of prior provisional U.S. Patent Application 60/817263 filed 28 Jun. 2006 Entitled "Purse and Case for Carrying a Book",

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

[0002] This invention relates generally to purses and cases for carrying books, such as Bibles, and more particularly, to an arrangement that facilitates the efficient carrying of a Bible or book, without damaging the book, and maintaining the book safely yet easily removably attached to the purse or case.

DESCRIPTION OF THE RELATED ART

[0003] Conventional cases for carrying books, such as Bibles, generally are limited to the attachment of the covers of the Bible to pockets in the case. There generally is no room for additional materials, such as a writing pad, writing instrument, and pockets for miscellaneous items. There is a need, therefore, for an arrangement for caring a Bible that physically protects the Bible, provides a plurality of accessory-carrying pockets, and permits the Bible to be removed from the case with minimal effort. In many instances, a decision to purchase a given Bible or book is made independently of a decision to purchase a book case. Accordingly, there is also a need to provide a book holder that can conveniently accommodate Bibles or books of various lengths and thicknesses.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0004] To satisfy the above noted needs, a revelation of the present invention is brought forth. In one embodiment, the present invention provides a book holder for holding a book within a range of lengths and thicknesses. The book holder includes a first longitudinal frame member and a second longitudinal frame member adjustably slideably positioned with respect to the first frame member. A set including at least first and second spaced apart hooks are connected generally adjacent an extreme end of the frame members. At least one on the hooks on each frame member is generally being transversely positionally adjustable with respect to its connected frame member.

[0005] Other features of the invention will become more apparent to those skilled in the art as the invention is further revealed in the accompanying drawings and Detailed Description of the Invention.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING

[0006] FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a book holder of the present invention in an environment of a folding cover tote or book case and a book.

[0007] FIG. 2 is a side view of the book case shown in FIG. 1.

[0008] FIG. 3 is side view illustrating a book being retained by the book holder.

[0009] FIG. 4 is rear view illustrating a book being retained by the book holder shown in FIG. 3 with a wing portion of the book holder being removed for clarity of illustration.

[0010] FIG. 5 is a sectional view of another book holder of the present invention substantially similar to a book holder of FIGS. 1-4.

[0011] FIG. 6 is a sectional view of the book holder perpendicular to the view shown in FIG. 5.

[0012] FIG. 7 is top view of the book holder shown in FIG. 6 with a wing portion of the book holder being removed for clarity of illustration.

[0013] FIG. 8 is an enlarged view of a portion the book holder shown in FIG. 6.

[0014] FIG. 9 is an enlarged view of a portion the book holder shown in FIG. 6.

[0015] FIG. 10 is an enlarged view of a portion the book holder shown in FIG. 6.

[0016] FIG. 11 is an enlarged sectional view of a portion the book holder shown in FIG. 6.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0017] FIGS. 5-11 provide a book holder 7 according to the present invention. The book holder 7 has a metal or polymeric female longitudinal frame member 10. The female frame member 10 is primarily shaped as an elongated rectangular box structure. The female frame member 10 has a height approximately 1/2'' or less and a width of approximately 11/4''. The female frame member 10 in the embodiment shown has a length of approximately 51/2 inches long extending along a longitudinal axis 12.

[0018] Generally adjacent an extreme end 14 of the female frame member 10 is a transverse beam 16. The transverse beam 16 has a transverse slot 20. Extending through the transverse slot 20 is a stub portion 22 of a hook 24. Juxtaposing the stud portion 22 of the hook 24 is an inner screw on flange 26 and an outer flange 28. The hook 24 has a first portion 30 that extends generally along an axis 38 generally parallel with the axis 12. The hook 24 has a second portion 32 spaced from the first portion 30 extending in a direction opposite the first portion 30. The second portion 32 can be generally parallel with the first portion 30. The second portion 32 of the hook can be coated with a polymeric material 34 such as plastic or other suitable alternative to prevent damage to any Bible or book that is connected with the book holder 7.
