Bat made of composite material

USPTO Application #: 20070087872
Title: Bat made of composite material
Abstract: A bat includes a hollow handle, a head portion mounted on a first end of the handle, a tail portion mounted on a second end of the handle, and an elastic plate mounted in an inside of the handle. Thus, when the handle hits a ball, the elastic plate is deformed by the impact force applied by the ball, so that the elastic plate produces a reaction bouncing force to the handle to maintain the stiffness and strength of the handle and to enhance the hitting force of the handle so as to strike the ball exactly, thereby enhancing the striking effect of the handle efficiently. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0001] 1. Field of the Invention

[0002] The present invention relates to a bat, and more particularly to a bat made of composite material.

[0003] 2. Description of the Related Art

[0004] A conventional bat made of composite material in accordance with the prior art shown in FIGS. 5 and 6 comprises a hollow handle 1. The handle 1 is made of a fiber strap woven by composite material. The fiber strap is wound around a core and placed into a die. Then, the fiber strap is inflated, heated and pressed to form the handle 1. Thus, the handle 1 has a greater stiffness. In addition, the handle 1 has a resilience smaller than that of an aluminum handle, thereby preventing the handle 1 from being deformed by the hitting force applied by the ball.

[0005] However, the handle 1 has a smaller resilience, so that the handle 1 cannot hit the ball too far, thereby decreasing the ball striking effect. In addition, the handle 1 has a greater stiffness, so that the handle 1 is easily broken when the hitting force is too large.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0006] In accordance with the present invention, there is provided a bat, comprising a hollow handle, a head portion mounted on a first end of the handle, a tail portion mounted on a second end of the handle, and an elastic plate mounted in an inside of the handle.

[0007] The primary objective of the present invention is to provide a bat having a larger bouncing force when hitting the ball.

[0008] Another objective of the present invention is to provide a bat, wherein when the handle hits a ball, the elastic plate is deformed by the impact force applied by the ball, so that the elastic plate produces a reaction bouncing force to the handle to maintain the stiffness and strength of the handle and to enhance the hitting force of the handle so as to strike the ball exactly, thereby enhancing the striking effect of the handle efficiently.

[0009] A further objective of the present invention is to provide a bat, wherein when the handle hits a ball, the elastic plate together with the intermediate layer is deformed by the impact force applied by the ball, so that the elastic plate together with the intermediate layer produces a reaction bouncing force to the handle to maintain the stiffness and strength of the handle and to enhance the hitting force of the handle so as to strike the ball exactly, thereby enhancing the striking effect of the handle efficiently.

[0010] Further benefits and advantages of the present invention will become apparent after a careful reading of the detailed description with appropriate reference to the accompanying drawings.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0011] FIG. 1 is an exploded perspective view of a bat in accordance with the preferred embodiment of the present invention.

[0012] FIG. 2 is a partially cut-away plan cross-sectional assembly view of the bat as shown in FIG. 1.

[0013] FIG. 3 is a partially perspective assembly view of the bat as shown in FIG. 1.

[0014] FIG. 4 is a partially cut-away plan cross-sectional assembly view of a bat in accordance with another preferred embodiment of the present invention.

[0015] FIG. 5 is a perspective view of a conventional bat in accordance with the prior art.

[0016] FIG. 6 is a plan cross-sectional view of the conventional bat as shown in FIG. 5.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0017] Referring to the drawings and initially to FIGS. 1-3, a bat in accordance with the preferred embodiment of the present invention comprises a hollow handle 2, a head portion 3 mounted on a first end 20 of the handle 2, a tail portion 4 mounted on a second end 22 of the handle 2, and an elastic plate 5 mounted in an inside of the handle 2. The elastic plate 5 has a shape of a coil spring. The elastic plate 5 has an outer diameter substantially equal to an inner diameter of the handle 2.

[0018] In assembly, the elastic plate 5 is pulled and extended outward to shorten the outer diameter of the elastic plate 5, so that the elastic plate 5 is extended through the open first end 20 of the handle 2 and inserted into the inside of the handle 2. The elastic plate 5 is restored to the original state by its restoring force after the elastic plate 5 is inserted into the inside of the handle 2 to expand the outer diameter of the elastic plate 5, so that the elastic plate 5 is closely fit in an inner wall of the handle 2 and is not connected to the inner wall of the handle 2. The first end 20 of the handle 2 has a determined diameter to receive the elastic plate 5, and the second end 22 of the handle 2 has a tapered section 24 to stop the elastic plate 5. Thus, the elastic plate 5 has a first end stopped by the head portion 3 and a second end stopped by the tapered section 24 of the second end 22 of the handle 2, so that the elastic plate 5 is positioned in the inside of the handle 2 and cannot slip in the inside of the handle 2.

[0019] In operation, when the handle 2 hits a ball, the elastic plate 5 is deformed by the impact force applied by the ball, so that the elastic plate 5 produces a reaction bouncing force to the handle 2 to maintain the stiffness and strength of the handle 2 and to enhance the hitting force of the handle 2 so as to strike the ball exactly, thereby enhancing the striking effect of the handle 2 efficiently.

[0020] Referring to FIG. 4, the bat further comprises an intermediate layer 6 mounted in the inside of the handle 2 and located between the elastic plate 5 and the inner wall of the handle 2. The intermediate layer 6 is made of plastic material and has an optimum diameter ranged between 0.2 mm and 0.5 mm (the optimum diameter of the intermediate layer 6 is tested by experiments). Thus, the elastic plate 5 together with the intermediate layer 6 is closely fit in the inner wall of the handle 2 and is not connected to the inner wall of the handle 2.
