Pumping ejector

Title: Pumping ejector

Brief Patent Description - Full Patent Description - Patent Claims

The Patent Description & Claims data below is from USPTO Patent Application 20090162213, Pumping ejector.
I claim:

1. A fluid pumping ejector, comprising: (a) a reservoir containing a primary fluid; (b) a mixing duct; (c) a primary-fluid ejector nozzle that ejects the primary fluid from said reservoir into said mixing duct to entrain a secondary fluid and create a mixed flow with sufficient momentum and internal energy to achieve characteristic speed; and (d) a subsonic converging nozzle coupled to the mixing duct downstream of the ejector nozzle, wherein the converging nozzle provides a characteristic cross section necessary for said mixed flow to achieve characteristic speed as it moves through said converging nozzle, thereby producing a standing shock wave at the point of maximum convergence of the nozzle.

2. The fluid pumping ejector according to claim 1, wherein said primary-fluid ejector nozzle is fully-expanded, wherein exit speed of the primary fluid is supersonic and exit static pressure of the primary fluid is equal to secondary fluid pressure.

3. The fluid pumping ejector according to claim 1, wherein the cross-sectional area of the primary-fluid nozzle exit is greater than the characteristic cross-sectional area of the converging nozzle.

4. The fluid pumping ejector according to claim 1, wherein the cross-sectional area of the mixing duct is greater than the cross-sectional area of the primary-fluid nozzle exit.

5. The fluid pumping ejector according to claim 1, wherein the cross-sectional area of the mixing duct is greater than the characteristic cross-sectional area of the converging nozzle.

6. A method of fluid ejection, comprising the steps of: (a) ejecting a primary fluid through an ejector nozzle into a mixing duct to entrain a secondary fluid and create a mixed flow with sufficient momentum and internal energy to achieve characteristic speed; and (b) passing said mixed flow through a subsonic converging nozzle coupled to the mixing duct downstream of the ejector nozzle, wherein the converging nozzle provides a characteristic cross section necessary for said mixed flow to achieve characteristic speed as it moves through said converging nozzle, thereby producing a standing shock wave at the point of maximum convergence of the nozzle.

7. The method according to claim 6, wherein said primary-fluid ejector nozzle is fully-expanded, wherein exit speed of the primary fluid is supersonic and exit static pressure of the primary fluid is equal to secondary fluid pressure.

8. The method according to claim 6, wherein the cross-sectional area of the primary-fluid nozzle exit is greater than the characteristic cross-sectional area of the converging nozzle.

9. The method according to claim 6, wherein the cross-sectional area of the mixing duct is greater than the cross-sectional area of the primary-fluid nozzle exit.

10. The method according to claim 6, wherein the cross-sectional area of the mixing duct is greater than the characteristic cross-sectional area of the converging nozzle.
